A war game with an uneasy balance between casual and hardcore

The Panzer General 2 game is a war game that casual gamers can play and become excited about, but it does feature a few strategy puzzles that tend to attract hardcore gamers. The game was released in 1997, so lower your expectations with regard to graphics. Despite its dated graphics, it is a tactical war game that anybody can learn and enjoy without being overwhelmed with micromanagement and small details.

Tactically place your troops in key locations to win battles

You are a Panzer general who has to win the war by conquering different lands and driving the enemy away. Panzer General 2 is a turn-based strategy game that was probably the inspiration for the map campaigns in the Total War games. You may play through scenarios that happened during World War II, and you may play fictional scenarios by utilizing the game and map editor.

It is like playing chess with a friend

You move your pieces into position and strike when the time is right. Many war games feature quick action and adrenaline, but Panzer General 2 takes the laid-back approach. Spend as much time as you like thinking about your moves and executing your plans. If you can overcome your dislike of retro graphics from the mid nineties, then you may enjoy this game.

PROS

  • It doesn’t feature the intricacies that many turn based strategy games force on you
  • Extend your playing time by creating your own campaigns with the editor

CONS

  • The hex based gaming style is not to everybody’s taste
  • Some may find the game a little too slow for an army game
